Current Beauty Favorites
I will be the first to admit makeup is not my thing. Oh sure, I LOVE makeup and definitely wear it every single day but I’m not good at it. It’s always been a struggle for me to actually have the makeup stay on my face all day even. Of course keeping up with my skincare routine definitely has improved this as it creates a much better starting layer for makeup to apply smoothly. At 48 I do think I have finally gotten the hang of a few things and thought I would share a few of my favorites!
FOUNDATION | Finding the perfect foundation for me has been a big of trial and error but I’ve been using Lancome Ultra Wear for probably 3 years now almost exclusively. I say almost because in the summer I typically switch to a tinted moisturizer once I have a little natural color. My skin is fairly dry so I need a foundation that doesn’t make it look even more dry but I also don’t want something with any sort of greasiness. After seeing so many great reviews I am considering giving the IT cosmetics CC cream a try next.
CONCEALER | Honestly, one of my very favorite concealers is this Cover Girl concealer from the drugstore! With super dark circles under my eyes which are basically inherited, I’m always looking for something that works better. My latest concealer purchase is the Urban Decay All Nighter. I had high hopes for this stuff after seeing another blogger show it off and give it rave reviews. Does it cover? Yes, very, very well. The issue I have is it is pretty thick and I feel like with my older skin it is accentuating some of the negative my under eye has to offer. Could be I am just not so great at putting it on!
LASHES | My eyelashes have pretty much always been fairly non existent. A few years back I tried the prescription Latisse but at some point I was too lazy to continue to fill the prescription. Now that Rodan + Fields has Lash Boost I’m excited to say I have lashes again! The only problem has been finding a mascara to work with my new longer lashes to keep me from getting the stuff all over my upper eyelid. I needed a mascara that went on well but dried very quickly and after trying several I finally tried the Younique Epic mascara and have stuck with it since August. A friend just showed off the new Benefit Bang mascara so I may be checking that out next! Oh, and I love using the L’oreal lash primer and have used it for probably like 20 years. I feel like it really helps my mascara roll on smoothly.
EYEBROWS | Who knew after spending years waxing these suckers to make them smaller I would be needing a pencil to fill them in? Age is a funny thing. I still have plenty of brow and definitely still need to have them waxed or tweeze them frequently but I began to notice they are more sparse these days. I picked up the Goof Proof Eyebrow Pencil and I have seriously never had so many comments about my eyebrows before. I now feel super awkward if I forget to use the pencil. I’ve never used one before in my life so I would definitely say this one is goof proof!
EYELIDS | Oh how I struggle with putting on eye makeup! Maybe it’s my deep set eyes or maybe I’m just too lazy to really try to get this right, but I never feel I’ve fully got the hang of the blending. I have tried lots of different eye shadows but always come back to the Urban Decay palettes. To me they just go on smoother than other shadows I’ve tried. Once my friend Holly shared the little tip of spraying a little rose water on my brush first I definitely feel my game is the strongest it’s ever been. Ha! Right now Nordstrom is having a makeup sale and some of the Urban Decay palettes are a really great price. Plus….free shipping so how can you go wrong! I think these would make great Mother’s Day or even graduation gifts. Pretty sure I’m stocking up on the Naked Basics because I always use up the lighter colors first.
LIPS | Last but not least are lips. No less of a struggle for me here. I think my face just resists the makeup! I bet I apply my lipstick 15 times a day. I’ve tried lipsense, drugstore, Younique, MAC…doesn’t matter they all are come within about an hour. I have learned that I do love something a little more moist versus the matte lipstick that has been popping up. Old lips + matte lipstick is pretty damn scary. Ha! Anyway, currently I’m using MAC in Twig which is currently part of the Nordstrom sale and an old favorite Toasted Almond from the drugstore!
That’s alot of makeup for someone who sucks at makeup isn’t it? Sorry about that! Hope one of you out there might have some great suggestions to share for concealer and stay all day lipstick that doesn’t make my lips feel dry. Be sure to link up your favorite makeup with The Blended Blog today!
