Confidence is Always in Style + TBB Linkup

Winter Layers I could show you all some pictures of a not so confident me several years back.  My style was not my own but more of a combination of current trends and matchy matchy looks.  So many times I squeezed (sometimes literally) myself into an outfit because I thought I should dress with the times.  Even more times I spent huge amounts of money on boutique clothing because I thought somehow spending more would insure the clothes looked amazing on me.  Mostly I wasted money underutilizing my closet because I had no clue how to pull an outfit together if I didn’t buy it together in the first place!  Yes, friends, this was my life!  A closet full of overpriced, trendy clothes that were only worn one way and, the kicker, typically did not make me feel my best self!

I have to say, this is where Pinterest and the blog world made a huge difference for me.  I began looking at my closet through a different lens and all of a sudden I could dress myself!  And even more I now am dressing for myself!  My own style in clothes that make me feel confident.

Don’t get me wrong, there are times I pull together an outfit and later (usually when I’ve decided to take some pictures of myself) realize, ummm, no mam.  It’s okay though because I took a risk and ventured out to try something new and now I know!

This outfit may not look like a big risk to some of you but for me just a few years ago I would have been appalled if you suggested I wear a taupe jacket with anything but taupe shoes!  Learning to blend colors instead of match them was a big deal for me.  And guess what, I am super short waisted (and a little poofy) and do not feel confident with a shirt tucked in so, hey, I’m going with it.

In this world of blogger fashion we have ventured into it is easy to get sucked in to buying all the latest things but I just say stick with pieces you love that love you back and don’t take out a second mortgage and think it will buy you confidence.  Here is the real deal, if you feel good in what you’re wearing more people are going to see your confidence over your outfit anyway.  It’s a beautiful thing!

  1. So far I’m doing a pretty good job this year shopping my own closet, which is a goal of mine until Spring. Yes, confidence is always in style and ENOUGH!

    1. I’m really trying to gear up to do a major purge in my closet. I have too much crap and have held on to so many things just because of how much they cost at one point in time. So dumb! I refuse to buy anything new until I complete this wellness challenge and evaluate my closet.

  2. You know the saying, “Confidence is Key”. I believe that. You are one smart cookie and you look cute too!

  3. YOU have totally helped me step outside of my comfort zone! Remember when I would send you pics and ask you if this went with that? Or what to wear with those navy camo pants I had? (they are now off to the thrift store sadly. I loved those pants!) Thank you for always being so kind and so supportive! I love seeing all the outfits you pull together! This is definitely your thing!

  4. I’m going to shower you with compliments today! 😉 Love how you exude confidence with gusto and you always look amazing as if it is effortless for you. You and I both know you put tons of effort and thought forth, it’s just what we do, yet you look so fabulous because you feel good in what you’ve styled and it shoes! Love this ensemble!

  5. These pictures…absolute stunning friend. This is all so true for my life too. I would buy something and would only wear it one way. But now, I try to challenge myself. Although sometimes for work it is just easier to grab those things we gravitate towards.

  6. LOVE this look! And I agree – sometimes when you try to buy things to be with the times and whatnot, no matter how much you spend, if it’s not you, then you don’t feel good in it! And you are not alone with pairing your shoes with certain things – it’s definitely something I have had to work on myself!

  7. Beautiful pictures Shelly! it is amazing when we look back. Years ago, I wasn’t feeling my best health wise and my clothing certainly reflected that. Love that you are showing confidence and are happy picking items and trying new things too. i would have never thought to mix patterns years ago, i think the blogs help us venture out too! Love the jacket with your pretty scarf!

  8. It’s so hard for me to imagine you not looking stylish, comfortable and perfectly put-together! I think I need to see some pictures as proof :p But really, congratulations on finding your style! It’s amazing how great it can make you feel.

  9. Well I love this look and I think you have great style. I totally agree that blogging has helped me have more fun with style and also nail down what I like best/what works for me. You are so right–confidence IS always in style!

  10. Well friend, you definitely look confident! I’d say I’ve been in your shoes before and that Pinterest and blogs have changed me for the better. And the fact that I’m getting older and hopefully wiser, well at least wiser than I once was! It’s been nice to see real women, with real lives wearing real clothes! I’m so happy we’re on this journey together!
Thanks for being a great woman of faith and beauty!

  11. Dropping by from Lisa’s at Coast to Coast and so glad I did. I love your outfit but more importantly your words about fashion and style. Always fun to meet a fellow blogger, I will be back!

  12. I absolutely love this outfit! I totally understand about not being comfortable just a few years ago! Mixing patterns, wearing a different color shoe than by bag, etc. was so off limits! I guess we do get better with age 😉 Happy Weekend Shelly!

  13. I love this post! Sometimes I just hate seeing everyone wearing and buying the exact same thing. My style is very classic and casual, and I’m not much into wild looks. I buy a trendy piece here and there, but I try to stick with my style when shopping. I love your look in this post!

  14. This is a great post. It is so easy to get caught up in every seasons new collections. Luckily I prefer an elegant style than fashion – thank heavens! x

  15. Thanks for this post! I’ve been there too. An “outfit” was what I bought together in the store and I had no clue how to wear it otherwise. Then I found fashion blogs and the notion of “remixing” and new outfits came about.
