Christmas Day in the Life + TBB Linkup
If you haven’t hopped over to join Sarah & Victoria for The Most Wonderful Time of the Year linkup you should totally check it out. Today’s prompt is a Christmas Day in the Life so I thought I would join the fun and share what our Christmas Day looks like around here!
Of course what kind of Christmas Day would it be if it didn’t start with a beautiful tree surrounded by gifts. I’m so thankful my older kids have always been great sports and still stumble in early so the littles can open their gifts. Now that Santa isn’t such a big surprise around here we definitely sleep a little later.
I put together a sausage and egg breakfast casserole on Christmas eve and preheat the oven as soon as we get up so it can slide right in and cook while we are admiring all the new gifts.
Layer
1 can crescent rolls
Top with 1lb browned breakfast sausage
Pour 8 eggs evenly onto top of sausage
Top with grated cheese
Bake for 25-30 minutes @ 350 or until eggs are firm in middle
Enjoy with a little hot sauce! (or a mimosa)
We always also have coffee followed by champagne and cranberry juice. I recommend drinking it until it is all gone and you will be totally set or an afternoon nap! I always bake a Butter Braid or two as well.
After we do our stocking exchange we do try to capture a Christmas morning picture of us in all our unmade up glory! This crew is not easy but the our Christmas morning pictures are some of my very favorites!
My in-laws come over and enjoy brunch with us and we open our gifts together. Typically we then play with gifts the kids received and play some games. Year before last I grabbed Bean Boozled and we seriously had the most laughs (and gags) playing this game! It was hugely entertaining. Other games I think make for great family fun and interaction would be Pie in the Face Game, Watch Ya’ Mouth or maybe something like Head’s Up. The biggest thing for me is keeping everyone interacting and laughing with one another!
We may or may not get fully dressed but eventually we will end up at a local asian restaurant for dinner! This started about 4 years ago and has seemed to catch on as a new tradition. If I do get dressed you can bet it will more than likely be in something super cozy like this sweatshirt which is now only $15! Hmm….but maybe I’ll just stay in these all day. You think if they have pockets they can pass for pants?
This year may look a little different with Christmas falling on a Monday and we may end up heading to my hometown Christmas night instead. Regardless, we will be spending time with the people who mean the most and that truly is what makes the the Christmas day in a life perfect regardless of the day it’s celebrated!
If you are still shopping for someone special, I just saw Kate Spade is having an extra 30% off sale styles! Here are some of the faves I saw on the site. I need a new wallet and I love the zipper ones from KS.
And if you like shopping J Crew Factory, all items are up to 50% off + and extra 10% + 40% extra on clearance! Oh, did I mention it also comes with free shippping?
Even though I’m not sharing a new outfit today, you still can! Link your latest fashion post with The Blended Blog style below!
Sounds like a wonderful Christmas!
Christmas day looks cozy and relaxed at your house. I like the idea of doing a not-made-up pic on Christmas morning. We’ll see if my crew goes for that!
The Asian restaurant idea sounds interesting!
I always enjoy getting a glimpse of how others celebrate the holidays. As a mom, I’ve loved seeing Kane find his stocking and Santa presents the last few years on Christmas morning. We usually have a homemade breakfast at my mother-in-law’s house, as we stay there on Christmas Eve.
Your Christmas sounds positively perfect. I love the “au natural” pictures. Your tree is gorgeous and the extra light a tree adds to a room is one of my favorite things. Thanks for sharing!
This sounds absolutely perfect, Shelly. I love other people’s traditions!
Your morning sounds perfect! I might have to do that egg casserole too. So yummy. Love the family pictures too. I can’t wait for christmas…because that means no work for a week and lots of family time!
Oh, I love your Christmas! It sounds perfectly relaxing and cozy. I like to make a casserole too, just something special after we open our gifts. Then we have to get ready to host Christmas lunch – that part is a little exhausting but somehow we manage. I need a new wallet too and I prefer one that zips. I’ve been eyeing a few KS but I think I may need to shop in person to make a final decision.
I hope your week is as good to you as you are to everyone else sweet lady!
xo,
Kellyann
We literally use to have Christmas eve night with family, Christmas morning at home and then head to my hometown and have more that night and it just got to be so tiring and no fun. For the first time Keith’s family actually moved the family gathering to the 23rd and I really think it’s going to make things a lot different. Of course that may mean I have to figure something out for dinner that night lol.
Absolutely perfect and your unmade glory is pretty darn glorious to me! We do an egg casserole too and we added cinnamon rolls from an Amish bakery to the menu about 5 years ago. yum..champagne and cranberry! And Asoan to top of f the ay..so awesome!
I totally think I’m going to add your little chicken and waffles this year! Now if I can remember to go pick up the Chick-Fil-A nuggets before they close on Christmas Eve! haha
I love posts like this! It sounds like an amazing Christmas, thank you for sharing this with us!
