Casual Crops and Top Knots

We successfully survived another school year and hit the road to celebrate with a four day weekend at the coast.  It was nice to just get away from the every day responsibilities and catch our breath a bit.  It is busy season for me at work as our annual budget is kicking off so you can bet I’m looking for every way possible to stretch my hair as many days as possible!  Rocking the top knot? I’ll let you be the judge!

Casual Crops and Top Knots

I shared this photo last week on Instagram as part of #maymomstyle.  The prompt for the day was out of my comfort zone and I really had a hard time deciding on an outfit but instead took the twist to share a little about how sharing these outfits initially was totally out of my comfort zone! I’m by no means a style icon but have loved sharing my looks with my readers and followers on social media and when I hear I’ve inspired someone else it makes my day.

All of the pieces in this look are favorites of mine but had never been worn together until this day.  Sometimes when I have a smaller window of time to choose my outfit fun things happen!  I know they are pricy and I did wait for a sale when I purchased, but these jeans are my go to for a skinny ankle style.  They definitely make me feel like I look a little thinner than my others and I think it’s because they hold their shape so well.

I’m positive I’ve shared these shoes multiple times with you here but, y’all, I’m not joking when I tell you they are so comfortable!  I love the style and wear them so much.  They are still on sale as part of the Nordstrom 1/2 yearly sale and come in 3 colors.  I also happened upon this pair from the same brand and they are also on sale and I think I may need them in black!!

A white jean jacket was never on my radar until my friend Sandy carried this one in her online boutique.  It has such fun detailing and a slight peplum style which definitely added a little extra flare with the patterned top and jeans.

I love how this look came together and actually felt confident and pulled together as I headed for a much needed girls night out! Side note:  I have super fine hair and not tons of it but ever since watching this video tutorial from Julie at PaleoMG I’ve been much more successful at creating a top knot that doesn’t look so scarce.  PS…if you love this cuff, Accessory Concierge is having a Memorial Day sale and these cuffs and the knockoff of my necklace are 30% off.  They make super gifts!

What is your favorite look to wear that pushes you slightly outside your comfort zone?

  1. I think you are rocking the top knot like a boss!!!! LOVE this sweet, casual look, hope this shorter week treats you right gorgeous!!

  2. So cute and I really love your hair up like that! Hope you guys enjoyed the water this weekend!

  3. I adore your entire outfit, Shelly!! And hurray for the end of school. I say that with a tinge of sadness because it also marked our final high school adventures with baby girl graduating last Saturday. Come Fall, we’ll have all three in university and a very empty nest indeed. Ah well. Such is the circle of life 🙂 xoxo

  4. Totally going to watch that video- my hair is disastrous! I have a white jean jacket on my list of items to buy- waiting for a great ON sale! Loved seeing your weekend pics on Instagram- looks like a blast, and the Hooks’ Dia De Los Muertos day looked so fun!

  5. I am hopeless with my hair. I need to up my game and figure out how to do some new styles! The top knot looks great on you – and I love your white jacket!

  6. Jo-Lynne Shane swears by those jeans too. I guess when there’s another friends and family sale I should take a serious look at them. I ordered those shoes but as per so many shoes, they were much too wide on my feet. Really??? Skinny feet? Are you kidding me? I’d much prefer skinny thighs and wide feet…LOL Cute look!!!

  7. I saw those shoes at the Nsale and was contemplating getting them, but then I imposed a shopping ban on myself until the Nordstrom July sale…I can do this! This outfit looks fantastic on you! I have a crop white jacket, but I’m thinking I need a full size one too. Off to check off that top knot, I seriously cannot do a top knot to save my life!

  8. Oh my gosh! I didn’t even recognize you at first glance. I love your top knot. Your jacket is so much better than my boxy white denim jacket. The feminine detailing are so dainty and it works so well with your patterned top peeking underneath.

I was so interested to read that you take your own photos. You and Jennie both do such a great job. I am going to add becoming comfortable with my camera on this summer’s bucket list. By fall, maybe I will rock the selfies, too!

Thanks for linking up with Jennie for Fabulous Friday. XO

    1. Haha…I do think I look so much different with my hair like this Leslie.

Definitely watch some you tube tutorials on using your camera. It seriously makes all the difference learning to shoot in manual. I still have so much to learn…just run out of time!
