Career Girl Picks – Nordstrom Sale
Last week I gave you my why for shopping the Nordstrom anniversary sale. I love picking up a few items for the coming season, especially staples I know will be carry me through regardless of the changing trends. This year I was actually able to go into the store and try a few pieces on as well as snag a few items online. Today I’m sharing a few of the items I think would be perfect base pieces for a career girl wardrobe.
Ponte Skirt with Exposed Zipper||I came home with this one! This skirt has the perfect amount of stretch and the zipper works from the bottom and the top. The store only carried in black but it is available in 4 colors. The length was great too as sometimes those back slits on a short skirts make them not so work appropriate. For under $40 it is a great item to pick up. I brought home the size 10 but have ordered the size 8 just to try since it was not available in the store.
Caslon Denim Shirt||I grabbed this denim shirt during the sale last year and it is back again. You can just never go wrong having a shirt like this as it works with skirts, pants, under blazers and converts easily with jeans. I love this one because it is super soft and not stiff at all.
Giraffe Print Shoes||If you have been around the blog long you have seen a similar pair from the same brand. I love this print and grabbed a pair two years ago. I was excited to see these in the sale as mine are really showing some wear. These shoes go with everything! Sizes are already super limited but hopefully they will restock. Seriously…these shoes can take an outfit up a level.
Kendra Scott Jewelry||These two pieces from Kendra Scott would definitely dress up the most basic work outfit. Grabbing on sale is an added bonus plus they make great gifts.
Knit Blazer||I grabbed this blazer late last fall and I wasn’t quite sure how I would feel about the knit but it is so soft and really looks great with jeans as well as skirts and over dresses. It comes in several colors and is under $40!
Layering Top||The jersey material makes this layering top a perfect addition. It is so super soft but also thick enough not to show all your flaws. It also comes in several colors and is under $20! I definitely brought home this one in burgundy and will be ready for our college days at work.
Faux Suede Jacket||Early this past spring I received a jacket almost identical to this one in my Spring Stitch Fix and I couldn’t send it back. I tried this one on in the store Saturday and it is perfect especially in warmer climates as it is very lightweight. It would make a great addition to any closet and could be dressed up or down.
Nude Pumps||I have still not found the perfect nude pump for my closet but have my eye on these. I love the ankle strap and the fact they are not super high. Don’t worry, if you don’t need nude they come in quite a few colors.
Open Toe Booties||I really think this will be one of the “it” booties you see all over the blog world this fall but I could be wrong. Last year I was so happy with the Vince Camutos I purchased in both comfort and wear I decided to add these in this color. They do come in two other shades as well. This pair was true to size for me.
Tote||I love this color of this tote and it would be the perfect size for carrying my laptop and all the necessary career girl tools. If you aren’t crazy about this color combo, the tote does come in several other.
Teal Blouse||I had a really hard time walking away from this blouse! It is beautiful and so flattering but I currently have several tops so similar already in my closet. This color was perfect for me and the bell sleeves and slight ruffles made it feel feminine. I think it would look great paired with a black skirt or pants.
I am pretty positive I did some late night ordering over the weekend and can’t wait to see what is on it’s way to try. Picking through my closet and really trying to decide what the best additions will be to my fall wardrobe will be a test for sure.
Have you snatched up any goodies from the sale yet? If shoes are your thing I’ve linked all of my favorite picks here.
I have been eyeing that knit blazer as an alternative to a cardigan. It looks really cute online! You always have the best finds!
I love my black one and it’s really soft
I love those knit blazers! I got a black one last year and still love it!! So soft and easy to throw on!! I ordered a burgundy and the Tan-White this year. Should get them tomorrow-can’t wait!
I love my black one too Sandy! I agree…so soft!
I love these heels for work (https://www.amazon.com/Sam-Edelman-Womens-Okala-Dress/dp/B00DRATNTO) – so much so that I have them in both black and nude. Picked them up at Dillards (but they aren’t showing on their website).
I really want the sandal version….but my toes are evidently a weird length and they always look dumb. 🙂
After Carly’s comment to you, I have been very aware of the shoes I wear! haha! It’s either my toes or my heels showing – not both! 🙂
Excellent choices and you are 1,000% right on the giraffe shoes. I got last years version and they are not only adorable, but comfortable and really do UP an otherwise ordinary outfit! I’m tempted to get the peep toe booties, but I’m leery of a 4″ heel. Happy Tuesday!
I can’t wait for them to arrive! Hopefully I love them as much as my first pair. I love the peep toes…and really thought I needed that color..looked up in my closet last night and had totally forgotten the pair I grabbed at the end of the season. Blah….I can’t justify keeping them. I have to say the block heel really does make all the difference for me. I wore mine from last year with no issues.
I absoluutely love that skirt! I’ve been trying to find a good black pencil skirt for a couple of years now every since the zipper on mine broke. I will definitely be checking that one out!
I think this one is a great option. I need a little stretch fro sure and for $40 it’s a win.
I love the pencil skirt and blazer!! I think I will need to go order those right now!
This skirt really does have the perfect amount of stretch Jessica. I didn’t notice if it comes in petite but if so I would consider in both the skirt and the jacket.
I love the stripe down the tote- black and brown are a great combo! I’m considering picking up some more maroon pieces to wear to work this next year that aren’t just t-shirts, and these picks are so pretty! Happy Tuesday!
Obviously I’m always looking for maroon pieces around here! Even though I’m not technically an Aggie it definitely feels like it after working here so long. Happy Wednesday!
Yep! I noticed all those Aggie colors!
Thankfully I can wear maroon well Laura! haha
Great picks! I’m a teacher so most of my wardrobe is “career girl” style and I have almost everything in your image above, even some of the exact same items so it’s true, those are perfect for the workplace! Now…to get a cute suede jacket…lol!
Virginia
More to Mrs. E
Well you must be the best dressed teacher around Virginia! The suede jacket is definitely one of those pieces I didn’t know I needed until it arrived. Hope you have a super Wednesday!
I’ve got those nude pumps in my cart. Now if I could just win one of these Nordstrom giveaways I’ve been entering!
(I did purchase the Blanknyc moto jacket in gray-it’s very pretty!)
So far I’ve sent back more than I have kept Kathy…..not sure if I’ve just gotten more responsible this year or what. lol
Great career picks, I like the knit blazer. My work style has gotten more casual over the years mostly because our new principal is super casual and declares jeans days more often than not. She tends to get irritated if any of us on the administrative team dress nicer than her too, sounds like a great place to work, right?! Ugh!
xo,
Kellyann
Love those flats. I really want to find some that lace up. I tried a pair of blush ones on at Target but they looked a little too much like ballet flats for me. An animal print would be perfect!
