Be Fearless
I’ve mentioned before in this little space how I was not always confident about dressing myself. A short 3 years ago I’m not sure I would have been brave enough to risk over the knee boots much less wear a scarf with a short sleeve top (yes really!). The whole white after labor day thing is still very new! Often I realize I’m more worried about what others may be thinking about my outfit instead of feeling confident.
Our church service this week was all about being fearless and while I’m positive our pastor was in no way speaking about fashion choices, the service spoke to my heart. You see, the one area fear can grab hold and rock me to my core is in the area of control. Sometimes I do have trouble with self-control but I realize more often than not the things that make me on the ledge crazy have to do with those things I so desperately want to control in others.
The pastor indicated one way to pinpoint the area of fear is to look at where we place blame or where we are constantly complaining and as usual when I took a look I could see he was exactly right. Instead of turning straight to God with these prayers, lately I have been venting to others and to the individuals themselves and using words like always and never and you know what? I’m the one feeling anxious and a little down and so, so helpless.
So this week I will be praying for God to help me be fearless enough to let go of the control. I mean I don’t really have it anyway! It’s so crazy that I know from past experience this will heal my soul and make me so much softer to certain situations but I put it off when I think I know what’s best or when I think I may have a more efficient way to make it happen! Silly, silly woman, I know.
Is there a place in your life where you are needing to be fearless right now but are struggling? I’d love to pray for you!
My friend Katy and I will be hosting Spiel the Beans on Tuesday so be sure to stop by and share a haunted tale or the scariest thing you have ever done!

What a great post Shelly! Thank you for sharing! and BTW-You rock the outfit!! 🙂
Oh Shelly I am in tears over this. Such a good word to read this morning.
I also loved reading that you used to not be so brave with what you wear. That gives me hope. I was just writing a post for later this week and reflecting on the changes I've made over the past year. I used to not think I was worth the time or the investment. Such a silly mistake.
Well this looks amazing!!!!! I love the scarf with short sleeves!!
Jaymie
Yesterday's sermon was awesome! Awesome and convicting…
Thanks Heather! I really think my hesitation over white jeans has less to do with the season and more to do with not feeling confident about my "curvy" bottom half. 🙂 A lot easier to hide in black. Thanks so much for reading Heather! I hope you have a super week.
You remind me of that when I start blah, blah, blah about you know who!! Feel free to ask me if I've prayed over it as much as I've stressed over it.
Thank you Jaymie! This scarf is definitely my new fave this year. Hope you have a super week.
Thanks Beth! I don't know about you but sometimes I hear a sermon and start looking around wondering if our pastor has been watching my every move! haha God definitely knows how to get my attention when I open up enough to listen.
One word….inspired!
You inspire me to step out of my comfort zone daily — with my clothes! I am a bigger woman and I do not have the confidence to carry off some fun clothes but then I see plus size women wearing these cute outfits and I try to be more confident! You look amazing and although you are not a plus size woman, I love seeing your outfits daily!!
You took a page outta my book! I feel the same way. Sometimes it's hard to take an honest look in the mirror but it's always so sobering. I find my feelings get hurt so easily but then I take another look and realize I was trying to have control over a situation that isn't mine to have. When will I learn?
Being fearless is definitely easier to talk about than do. I like your outfit! I read that the "no white after Labor Day" rule was an old-fashioned way of showing that you came from "old money" instead of "new money". (People who were "old money" though they were superior, and the women invented little fashion rules to set themselves apart from "new money" gals.)
I always adore your fashion posts, but I really love when you speak from the heart! From what I've read on your blog the last year, you are the definition of fearless. You are bold and confident, and I totally admire that about you! You just keep being you, friend!
Emily your sweet words made my day. The past week I have been a little nutty and not feeling quite like myself. It's funny how other people see me sometimes is not how I see myself. At the end the of the day I do believe I would consider myself confident even though that wasn't always the case. Hope you are having a super week!
Robin thanks for sharing this little piece of trivia. Well I guess we know which one I am right? haha
So true Kellyann. Learning not to get my feelings hurt was huge! Sometimes it is easier than others but often I let my adult children or my husband get right under my skin and it just feels like a personal attack. I really have to take a step back and evaluate.
You are so sweet friend. I really think learning to dress my body in a way appropriate for my body is the key but I still struggle with it sometimes. I see something stylish and I really want it to work for me but sometimes I'm just not made like that. 🙂 You keep on getting outside your comfort zone because you look adorable.
Ahh…thanks sweet friend. Muah!
You know I love white jeans in the fall so much! You styled this perfectly with the boots and scarf!
Such a pretty outfit! That scarf is perfection!!!
You are too kind! Thank you for always lifting me up when I doubt my choices!
Things are always easier said than done, right. My hubby tells me I am more of a black and white person, and I try to work on those grey areas. You look quite confident as you should in this gorgeous fall outfit Shelly. I love the white with the fall colors of olive, browns and tans. That scarf is something!

Thanks Julie! This scarf has been heavy in the rotation for sure!
Oh to get into the grey…too often! Sometimes the black and white is just so comforting.
Thank you Sarah…definitely a fast favorite here!
Such a great message–being fearless can mean so many things. And there are people who think that clothing is just fluff—but it really can make a feel better about ourselves!
You look fabulous!

I'm loving this whole outfit. Too cute!
It's so true Jodie. When I feel confident I'm just a better me all the way around. And yea for boots that make you feel 10 years younger!! It is finally cooling off enough here that I feel I could wear them! Hope you are having a super week.
