Attitude of Gratitude – Week 2

· ·
My friend Holly and I would love to challenge you this month to have an attitude of gratitude in all that you do.  Choose to intentionally give thanksgiving for every day blessings we all overlook sometimes.   We hope you will consider joining us each Thursday in November by linking up your post about why you are grateful this month or how you have chosen to have an attitude of gratitude for yourself and others.
This bible verse really resonated with me and last week I touched on the first piece; being joyful always.   Giving thanks is God’s will for you; not something he just hopes for us but he wills for us.  This week I am going to breakdown the second piece of this verse.
What does it mean to pray continually?  I will be honest, praying continually to me until now would have meant the actual act of praying; head bowed, eyes closed the whole thing.  I am far from being versed in theology but from what I’ve been reading about this verse the intent is really that we continually turn our focus to our heavenly father.  In all things we experience throughout our day, having a mind and a heart for God will ease fears, provide guidance and grace.
So what does this have to do with having an attitude of gratitude?  As we go through our daily lives it is hard to continually feel gratitude toward daily encounters if God is not continually at the center of our minds.  The daily grind can be a struggle full of stress, fear, outside pressure but also joy and happiness.  Knowing you can turn it all over to God will give you the freedom to show an attitude of gratitude towards others as well as yourself.
This one is so much harder than I would have ever imagined.  I can sit and pray for others or give thanks for my blessings in standard prayer but I know I am not always in a state of continuous prayer.  I am challenging myself this week to respond to all situations I encounter by praying continuously and recognizing God is with me always.   In turn I am hopeful this will open my eyes to opportunities in my path to bless others with an attitude of gratitude instead of responding with judgement or anger or ignorance to the situation they may be facing.
We would love to hear how you are celebrating an Attitude of Gratitude. Time to link up!  Only rule is you only share original content and share with an Attitude of Gratitude!  Please show us a little gratitude and link back to our blog.
While not required, we would love you to follow us!

  2. Shelly i love this post! I truly believe we take so many things for granted – and God is everywhere, in everything in our lives. It's so important to take time everyday to connect with Him and to be thankful for all He gives. Great post!

  3. I really like how you and Holly are dissecting the verse and both of your interpretations of this beautiful verse! I agree, I think praying continuously looks a lot like focusing on the Lord and humbly realizing our need for Him. It means having an attitude of gratitude and that we focus that gratitude towards him throughout the year rather than just around the holidays. Great article! I love this link-up!

  4. Thanks so much for reading! It can be so hard sometimes in this busy crazy world we live in. I just know I can always tell when I have let this slip for too long and I start being harder on myself and those around me. Have a super week Kendra!
