5 Things Friday – Amazon Buys
Happy Friday friends! It has been a very productive week around here and I’m super excited for the weekend. We will be heading to the Aggie game on Saturday and meeting up with one of my good friends, Kaki, and her family. I’m looking forward to lots of laughing and hopefully a win at Kyle Field!
As I shared on Wednesday, this week we have had more painting done around the house which means things are not exactly where they should be. I’m pretty darn proud of myself because so far I haven’t lost my shiz and it’s also “that” week if you know what I mean! I was super excited to see the new built in painted today as I had been just a tad bit anxious over the color. I can hardly wait to show off all the changes here on the blog once things are back in place!
Since things have been just a little disorganized, I’m going to keep it simple and share my last 5 purchases from Amazon today! Did I love them all? Are they totally random? You will have to keep reading to find out!
I love taking pictures but have been out of practice the past few years. One of my favorite lenses has always been my 50mm but it has been having a focusing issue (or a user error issue) for a bit. The one beef I’ve always had with it is the angle wasn’t quite wide enough. Before our trip I decided to order a new lens as I knew I might want to take some pictures of some scenery but also use it to take pictures of us. This lens is reasonably price and did a great job! If you browse through my Scottsdale, Arizona post you will see some of the pictures I took of flowers and cactus which have amazing bokeh which I love!
Wide Angle Lens for Cell Phone Pictures
If you are like me and love starting every trip with a selfie in the car of everyone riding with you, you NEED this! I purchased this little lens to take along on our trip and I’m so glad I did. It is super easy to use as it just clips right onto your iphone and it works on both the front and rear facing views. We were able to capture so much more of the scenery by using the wide angle. It is also fairly sturdy and under $20 so to me it was worth the splurge. If you love a fun little tool to up your iphone photo game I would suggest it!
I mentioned on my Insta-stories this week my new fave dry shampoo! Evidently I’m the last to make it to this party and all I can do is cry over all the dollars I’ve wasted trying more expensive options. Carly Jo was wanting her own bottle so when I saw this 3 pack for under $20 I decided it was worth a shot. Y’all, I washed my hair on Thursday night for the first time since Sunday. My hair felt clean all week despite working out and it was not stiff at all. I’m sold!
I must have really been on a good binge this month as we were getting ready for our trip and I also purchased a set of these Ebags on sale. I thought they seemed like a great alternative to rolling my clothes into my carry on. Let’s just say they took a flight before I did and I rolled all my clothes. I’m sure they are very functional for some people but this was just not a system for me.
My makeup brushes were all kinds of sad. When I saw these pop up on one of the daily specials I decided to take a chance. The ratings were an average 5 star and so far I’m loving how soft they are. Full disclosure, I may not even be using the right brush for the right thing and have zero use for probably 12 of these but they sure look pretty in my jar!
On a side note, I really do hope to get back up to speed with my photography skills and the one thing I have not done is fully learn my new camera which is already 2 years old! A good friend told me about Creative Live which has tons of tutorials including some you can watch for your EXACT CAMERA!! Score because I am a visual learner 100%. I can hardly wait to get started and see if I learn anything! You can use this code for $15 off any of their courses!
That’s it for me folks! I’m super excited for a little lunch date with my grown up girl today and a lazy evening grilling steaks on the patio. How are your weekend plans shaping up?
If you missed the blog this week I recapped our trip to Scottsdale, Arizona and shared a fall home tour.

Yay, love a good lens. You know I’ve been having focusing issues with my 50mm too…I have heard that your lens does have a life on it, and that it will not take as good of pictures. I’ve had this lens for 9 years now and it’s the lens I use for all of my outfit pictures and blog pictures….so…I’m thinking I might need a new one? Do you know? I love make up brushes. I did the same as you, bought a whole huge pack and use maybe 10 of the 30 it came with, LOL!
My 50mm is 11 years old and it does pretty good when I’m actually shooting behind the camera but if I try to use it on the tripod with a remote it will not focus on the right thing….so frustrating!! Happy Friday lady!
Yes I am having the same issue! I’m wondering if I should replace it…hmmm…???
Lots of good stuff today Shelly!!! Dying to see the finished paint job on the storage area by the door. So I’m pretty much thinking I should order that selfie lens today so we can take it on our trip. Thanks for the heads up. You my friend are not the last one to the Batiste party…I am. I’ve yet to buy it and I’m not sure why. I’m trying to go longer than a day (lol) without washing my hair. I’m going to pick a can up next time I’m in TJMaxx or Marshalls. Have a wonderful weekend!!! XOXO
Lisa…seriously order the lens for your trip!! I think you will definitely find it will come in handy!
I did it!!!😄 Thanks Shelly!!!!
Girlfriend, you are going to have me tossing all kinds of things in my Amazon cart! I have a lot of different lenses for my camera, and have been thinking of adding a 35 mm. I think you have me convinced I need to. I use my 85mm for all my blog photos and love it, but desire something for closer range in my daily life. Batiste dry shampoo is the bomb – my absolute Favorite. Just used some this morning (and yesterday – haha!). I seriously love some nice makeup brushes and this kit looks amazing. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend!
LOL…well that’s how I end up with all these random Amazon purchases!! I see them and next thing I know there is a package on my front porch! Happy Friday!
I’ve heard good things about that Batiste dry shampoo. I’ve had it in my Amazon wish list but I haven’t ever tried it..
I am seriously impressed with it Lindsay. And believe me I’ve tried a lot of different brands!!
My fave dry shampoo and those packing bags are awesome! Have an incredible weekend gorgeous!
I couldn’t believe the difference in this dry shampoo girl! So glad I finally tried it. Hope you have a beautiful weekend!
I need to give packing bags a try (or maybe pack less next trip.)
Lol….I am an over packer deluxe! It’s helped a bit moving to a carry on only but I still pack way too many outfits!
I have those bags for travel too and only like them with my lingerie! LOL….I got them on clearance at TJ Maxx. We are going to a Fresno State vs UNLV game tomorrow night and then a concert Sunday evening. This coming week is SO BUSY. I do NOT like having something to do every night. UGH. Have a great weekend!
Things have had a nice pace for us this fall since Dillon decided not to play football. I am going to try and soak it up!!
I kind of agree about the packing cubes…just not sure if I would really like using them. Your lens descriptions are going to convince me to get that new DSLR I wrote about today. Have a wonderful weekend at the CHILLY football game!
I definitely know I will always have a DSLR….but to me the biggest deal is learning how to use the camera and not so much which camera you decide on. And then practice makes perfect…I have not been practicing for the past few years!
Batiste dry shampoo has been my favorite for awhile, it’s so good and the price is on point! Those make up brushes are a great deal, they’d make a fabulous gift for sure! Have a wonderful weekend friend, we’re going to spend some time removing things from the walls and deciding what we’re keeping and what we’re pitching. I am NOT looking forward to it but hopefully I’ll be singing a different tune next weekend in a freshly painted home. Fingers crossed!
xo,
Kellyann
Yes! I seriously moved everything I knew I wanted to keep for sure into one room and anything that was questionable went into the garage. All of our living spaces, bathrooms and laundry have now been painted and it feels so amazing! It may take me awhile to recover enough to do the bedrooms.
LOVE buying camera toys. Amazon is the only place I ever do that too!
YES to the iphone camera lens – best purchase ever!!! YES to dry shampoo because, well, I would never make it to work on time with out it. And MAYBE to the cubes. I have some but only use them for make-up and underwear – random, I know! But, if I had other sizes I could see where I might could utilize them more. I think they are more for pre-planners and not the last minute, throw it in your bag and sit on it so it zips type of people… 🙂
