5 Quick Ways to Update Your Living Space
After searching for years I finally found a sofa I loved and after it was delivered I knew I made a great choice for our family space but also knew I needed to update the room and make it a little cozier. While I know what I love when I see it, I am not very good at picking things out on my own. I decided to call in professionals and I’m thrilled with the results. Based on our experience, I’m sharing 5 quick ways to update your space!
Note: This room is very hard to photograph in natural light so, while these are not quality photos, I hope they will present the ideas well!
Pop of Color
When this pop of color first showed up on a design board I was quick to decline. The longer the day went on and the more I looked the more I fell in love and decided to take a chance. Wow! I’m so glad I did. This pop of green in an otherwise neutral room has been a quick favorite. You can easily add pops of color with throw pillows and blankets and other home decor.
Texture
There is just something about adding some texture to a room that creates warmth. I really wanted this space to be something Keith could love as much as I could and while we were furniture shopping he kept looking at animal hide rugs. I love how layering the jute rug under a cow hide warmed up our space! We also have several different textures added with throw pillows and blankets to create a good balance.
Depth
I’ve wanted to add curtains to this room since day one and while they are truly just for decoration, I love how they really opened up the room. We also picked a few pieces for a gallery wall to add some depth.
Bring the Outside In
Take a look around the outside of your house or your neighborhood and bring a little outside in. I’ve been amazed at how this clipping from a gorgeous plant in my backyard has lasted in this glass vase for a month now. It would be easy to use bamboo, roses or many different types of greenery to just add a little life to your living space.
Revive
Recovering furniture is not a budget friendly item and, if I’m being honest, I probably could have purchased new chairs instead. If you have a piece with sentimental meaning that you love but just doesn’t really fit your taste, recovering is definitely an option. These chairs belonged to my uncle and then my grandmother and while the fabric was in good shape, they were not my style and needed some TLC. I’m over the moon with how they turned out! If you have an older couch, adding a couch cover could be a nice alternative.
Bonus
Painting your house is an easy way to update. The walls and ceiling were painted with Revere Pewter with egg shell on the walls and flat on the ceiling. We also painted all the woodwork which really brightened up the space.
So what did the space look like before?
Pretty boring right? This new look is so much more our style and I have been thrilled to come home each day and enjoy our space.
What are your favorite ways to add some updates to your home?
A special thank you to Emily and Stacie at Revival Living Interiors for bringing life to our living room!

Wow, what a difference! I love the new look…very modern and fresh! Thanks for the tips…I’ll need them!
Thanks Tanya! These pictures really don’t do it justice. I’m loving it so much.
Gorgeous, Shelly! I just adore those chairs!
I was blown away by them Lindsay! They don’t even look like the same chairs. Thank you!
Your room looks awesome! I love the layered rugs. Texture is definitely a great way to add interest to a room.
Thank you Whitney! I’m so excited with how it all turned out.
This transformation is AMAZING!!!! Can you please come and help me decorate when it’s time, lol!
Did you not note…..I suck at decorating and had to hire people to do it for me. Lol…hoping I’ll be able to pull from their inspiration and do the remaining rooms myself!
The change looks amazing. I love this room. Can I ask, do you like having no pics on the walls? I recently took down my gallery wall, and I feel as though I have to put something back up. But I actually prefer it bare, and the emphasis on the rest of the room.
I love the transformation! That green ottoman that you have! And I love the lighter color you chose for the walls, the curtains really are a great addition!
Looks gorgeous Shelly! I love the pop of color and the area rugs, all the little details make a huge impact!
