Friday Favorites

· · ·

Did this week seem like it had an extra day to anyone else?  Every single day I was having to remind myself what day it was but we made it and it’s finally Friday and Friday is my favorite!

We had a late night at the ballpark late last night so this will be short and sweet.  Here are a few of my favorites this week!

Opening Day!

Riley was assigned to the Buies Creek Astros in North Carolina and yesterday was opening day!   He came in to close in the 9th inning and fanned 3 batters for the save.  If you have been following along here, then you know how excited we were to see him look strong after last years unexpected season ending injury.  I’m dying to hop on a plane to North Carolina to see him live in action because it has been so very long!

Winning!

This kid was also on the mound last night for high school baseball.  He pitched 4 innings and got stronger as the game went on. The other team was very “spirited” and I loved seeing how their banter fired Dillon up instead of letting him get the banter in his head.  He seriously seemed to get stronger every inning and after striking out the last batter in the 4th inning I laughed as he gave the stare down to the opposing dugout as he ran off the field.  It’s funny to me to see this quiet, laid back kid get that competitive fire.

Shopping!

It seems like I always have this problem more as the seasons change!  I shared a few spring favorites from Old Navy yesterday and I also received a Stitch Fix on Friday I can hardly wait to show you guys.  Right now I’m really working on getting back into all my shorts but also need a new swimsuit (it’s been about 3 years) so I’ve been looking for one that might be flattering but still fashionable.  I’ve added these to my cart but have not pulled the trigger just yet!

Eating!

On Wednesday I shared how I’ve been waiting to get back on track with healthy living.  Lots of yummy yet clean and healthy food!  I made barbacoa from the Fed and Fit book and it was amazing!  She suggested eating it with jicama tortillas and I was like what the what?  After reading how to make them I knew there was no way I was spending that much time and figured I would either use corn tortillas or make lettuce wraps but we found the jicama tortillas already made in our HEB get fresh section.  Y’all, they were so good and only 8 (count them!) 8 calories!!  Game changer for sure and they didn’t break apart like corn tortillas sometimes do.

I really love Cassy Joy’s book because the focus is on clean and healthy living but also addresses real life and the fact that we are going to want a treat here and there.  I say her book is healthy living with a little grace! New Furniture!

We need new living room furniture something terrible.  Like there are seams held together by safety pins kind of terrible. Rounding up my husband to make a trip to the furniture store is like herding cats but this weekend Dillon actually has a game in The Woodlands and that just happens to be where I’ve found this couch!  I’m so hoping we make it by and Keith loves it as much as I do so I can cross this one off my project list.  Now, if I could just buy the entire room and have someone come hang the curtains that would be great!

So that is what’s up in our world!  Hope you all have a beautiful spring weekend!

  1. UGH…bathing suit shopping. Shoot me now!!! Those are both cute and a little extra tuck in power gets two thumbs up. I’m a tankini girl myself. Nothing is worse than needing to go potty and having to try and deal with a wet suit. Love the sofa. We just got a sectional in October and we LOVE it. I wish our room could have accommodated a chaise on one end so you basically have 2 corners 😉 Fingers crossed Keith loves it. Have a great weekend!

    1. I would LOVE to wear a tankini but so far I haven’t found one that works for my wonky body. I’m so short waisted and then the fact that I have major love handles just makes it ride right up lol. I seriously hope this couch works because I have been trying to find a new one for 18 months!! Have a beautiful weekend.

  2. Happy Friday, Shelly! Hooray for opening day! How exciting! Hope your boys each enjoy a great season! That “I need to stop” quote totally cracked me up! I can absolutely relate. Your meal looked delish! Loving your new furniture too! What a great week!! Hope your upcoming weekend is a lovely one too!

  3. We’re looking for a new couch too, but I can’t get my husband to the store. I told him he has a few more weeks and then I’m just deciding myself :)! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Girl….I seriously have been trying to buy a couch for the past 18 months. It should not be this hard!! I know what I like but I am not good spatially so I have no clue when I buy something whether it will work in the space…Keith is good at that so I NEEEEED him. 🙂

  4. What a wonderful Friday favorites! Yes girl, you need to help on that plane to North Carolina and how great is Dillion looking on the mound is well! The shopping quote, you know that is me to a T as well! Here’s to healthy eating after all the crap I have indulged and here’s to an absolutely fabulous weekend beautiful lady!

    1. You know how conflicted I am momma!! The thing is he could be moved in a short period of time so I could book flights only to have him gone before the trip. Guess I just need to bite the bullet and book a refundable flight huh. I feel sooooo good right now after eating so well for several weeks…but I seriously want some wine right now like no tomorrow!! Hope you have an amazing weekend!

  5. That couch looks exactly like ours, except that we don’t have the ottomon on one end. We bought ours at Dillards. We liked it so much that we bought another one, after we had to sell ours when moving to the UK. Yea for baseball! Have a wonderful weekend.

  6. Trina Turk always makes fabulous pieces- I love that blue and white suit! I’m not super baseball savvy but do the Buies Creek Astros ever play against the Sugarland Skeeters? My Po played farm league and got called up to the majors for the Detroit Tigers the same week he got drafted into the Korean War! My daughter is turning out to be a little carbon copy of him, so it’s fun to watch! Hope you can talk your hubby into that furniture set! Have a great one!

    1. That is a cool story about your Po! They definitely say elite athletes come from a line of elite athletes and my daddy was definitely one as well…but dropped out of school to work instead. The Buies Creek Astros are a single A affiliate of the Astros and I’m pretty sure the Sugarland Skeeters are an independent ball club so no they will never meet up. Hope you have a super weekend Allie!

  7. I love that miracle suit – the little cut out helps to break up the one piece! Congrats to both your boys for great games!!! That barbacoa looks so delicious – yum! Good luck with your furniture shopping.

  8. So much to love about this post. Where do I start?
1.) Yay- for your boys save. Love to hear about his success.
2.) I smiled so big when I read about your younger sons stare down after being heckled by the other team.
3.) Laughed out loud at the shopping quote. That has been the story of my week.
    4.) Those suits—- LOVE.
5.)That couch is beautiful. We are on the search for new furniture as well and I have spent more time than I want to admit browsing the Wayfair site. Because you know, I have to make my house look like Joanna Gains decorated it. Hahaha. No joke. I am slightly obsessed.

    1. I know as a fellow baseball mom you totally get the stare down!! We finally pulled the trigger after 2 years looking for furniture. I love Joanna but I’d have to gut and redo the entire house to get that look lol. I’m excited to have new furniture soon!

  9. Busy LOOOONG week in El Paso, too. Hope you can get out to NC in the near future to watch your older ball player. We bought three similar leather pieces for our den at Sofa Mart. They had to be custom made so thought we would never get them but glad we hung in there. Very comfy, chargers for technology built into the sofa, drink holders, electric recliners. Hope you get your new living room furniture tomorrow.

  10. So excited to hear about the boys baseball activities!! It’s been just about the longest week of my life. Seriously just drained. I’m super ready for our couples vacation to San Antonio in 12 days !!

      1. My dad was diagnosed with acute luekemia last week but it’s since been changed to chronic luekemia. So on Friday it was up and back to Stanford medical center and then I’m taking them back up this coming Thursday for his bone marrow biopsy. It’s very draining. I’m definitely ready for some R and R!

          1. We didn’t get to go. Dad’s insurance hadn’t preauthorized! So mom just called me and it finally went thru so I am taking them up on Monday. Thank you for the prayers.

  11. Buies Creek – well that is two hours east of me and right out of Raleigh (where I lived for two years!) Congrats to him and I hope he can make the big leagues soon! That dinner looks mighty yummy! Have a fab weekend.

    1. Sarah….I really think you would enjoy Fed and Fit. Lots of healthy casserole type dishes too which I love because I can make on sunday and divide for my breakfast or lunch all week long. She also tells you how long each will last in the fridge and/or freezer.

  12. That couch looks REALLy similar to mine. I absolutely hate furniture shopping. Those suits are SUPER cute. I really need to grab something new this year myself. We pretty much live at the pool all summer.

  13. Do you mind sharing the name or brand of the HEB jicama tortillas, save me from blindly searching, HA! Thanks
