Summer in Review – Blogtember #3

· · ·
In May I shared some ideas for our Summer Bucket List and I thought it would be fun to check off the list and see what we accomplished.  I’m all too guilty of underestimating just how much we do so I was quite shocked to see most of our list was achieved.
Summer Review
My kids were pretty easy this year when we sat down to choose.  All Carly wanted was to visit three waterparks and throw a puppy birthday party and Dillon just wanted to fish!  Carly made it to one true water park with her sweet 4th grade teacher in June and we decided we could count the water rides at Silver Dollar City along with the JW Marriott San Antonio to complete her list. Neither a drive in movie or visiting a state park happened but maybe this fall when things cool off.  As I said in my September Goals, painting the kids rooms is still a work in progress.  So here’s a look at what we did check off our list!

We really started our summer with fishing at the coast over Memorial Day weekend and then Dillon and Keith made it back to the coast two additional times this summer.  We also managed to squeeze in some fishing in Missouri.

Our little Dutch Buddy turned two and Carly threw him a PAWS-atively perfect puppy party!

Our Missouri Roadtrip was so much fun and we would definitely love to see more of this beautiful state.   I’m sure baseball will take us back at least one more time in future summers.

Carly Jo had a busy summer and was lucky enough to attend Pine Cove Camp in the City hosted by our church in June.  July she headed to Creative Arts Camp with her bestie where she made a fun new cupcake every day and then on to “real” art camp for a week.  She ended July with her very favorite, TBarM for a week away from home.

Dillon pretty much focused on sports this summer by attending both a baseball and football camp but also heading to work out four mornings a week at the high school hosted Elite camp.  The best, though, is always ending the summer at TBarM Camp Travis.  You can read a little more about their camp experience here.

My summer just never feels complete without a trip to the beach and we were lucky enough to find a four day weekend to slip away to Port Aransas with our besties!  Thanks to Holly we also checked off the water balloon fight because the ones I purchased 2 years ago are still in the drawer!!
We celebrated our 15th Anniversary with a night away in Austin at the Driskell hotel and received the sweetest little welcome from the staff before dining at Perry’s Steakhouse.
Our little community is full of volunteer opportunities!  We made it out to work for a few this summer including the Brazos Valley Foodbank, Freshman move in at A&M and the Bridge Ministries food pantry.  Giving back is really a gift to yourself!

We were so excited for our Girls Getaway to San Antonio!  So excited to have this tradition with these sweet girls.

And then as if one girls getaway wasn’t enough, I tied up the summer with a moms weekend away to Austin!  So hopeful this will become a new tradition!

Let’s not forget, as a foodie family we are definitely always making this a priority!  From homemade ice cream floats to Bahama Bucks snow cones to tomato soup at Bakery Lorraine or Crepes at Sweet Paris we pretty much ate our way through summer!

So, are you like me?  Do you move through summer thinking you didn’t do much and then look back to find it was totally full of so many great activities?  I think working outside the house makes me forget sometimes how much we really do pack in but I LOVED putting this together!

  1. I have always told my Mom I thought it would be fun to do a mother/daughter trip somewhere and these photos made me think that all the more, I will have to see where we could take a quick weekend getaway!

  2. Mother/daughter trips are seriously so much fun! I've taken my mom on several and the key is really making sure you take them somewhere you both will love while also being realistic about what you can actually fit into a day. Get something on the calendar!!!

  3. Mid-summer I posted my own Summer bucket list and gave myself till the end of September to finish. I cannot wait to do a review of that. It looks like you had a busy but great summer. The kids had so much fun at their camps. And like my family, I love that you guys are a foodie family.
