Most Memorable Birthday – Blogtember #5
Only 5 days in and I’ve already proven sticking with 30 days of prompts for Blog-tember is not nearly as easy as it seemed! The only thing MORE difficult was deciding on my most memorable birthday.
I really do have a few solid memories from my childhood birthdays and while I couldn’t pick just one I decided I would share a few if for no other reason than to jot them down in hopes they are never forgotten!
Six…..my mom bought me the most beautiful pink tiered cake with a ballerina on top. I only remember because I was not a dancer and thought it was weird. Ha! I also won a game but my mom did not let me win the prize (a puzzle) and I proceeded to sit on the kitchen floor and throw a tantrum. Eek!
Ten…slumber party deluxe! We had hot dogs and junk food and played all our favorites on the record player until the wee hours. I remember most my mom making homemade donuts the next morning from biscuits. My best “boy” friend had a birthday a few days after mine and he had a slumber party the same night and they all came over to eat with us.
Thirteen….my mom and my friend Erich’s mom joined together and threw us a dance at the Country Club. I’ll never forget my cake which included a girl talking on the phone.
Sixteen….my dad teased me by jingling keys in his pocket. Boo!
Eighteen…no one acknowledged my birthday all day at school and to my surprise I arrived home to find a surprise party on my back patio. This may have been my favorite birthday memory.
I turned 21 two weeks after having my first baby and 24 the day after having my second. It really does seem like after that my birthday kind of faded a bit and it became more fun celebrating their birthdays. So when I turned 40 I totally wanted a weekend away with my girlfriends and we headed to San Antonio. We shopped, ate at Mi Tierra and did a little bar hopping. They presented me with the most precious Tiffany Key and it is definitely the most special birthday gift I’ve ever received.
I will say, I do think taking a moment to look back at where I’ve been and do a little self reflection is always a big deal to me on my special day. As 50 seems to be quickly approaching, I don’t dread aging as much as I treasure the chance to continue growing.
Do you have one birthday that stands out more than the rest? What made it so memorable?

Shelly, every time I read your posts I am convinced that we need to be neighbors! We atleast need to meet at Gloria's ASAP! Xoxo!
How fun – loved reading your birthday memories! My favorite birthday was 40, when my husband surprised me with a vow renewal ceremony in Napa. Can't believe it's been almost ten years ago!
Lol the ballerina on the cake and your confusion. I definitely had a few of those birthdays myself.
We have to meet up eventually Emily! I really do feel the same when reading your posts!!
Oh my goodness Lana…..I seriously just got chills reading this! That would have been just the most special gift. What an amazing man you have! And yes….40 is becoming a distant memory quickly.
haha, ballerina cake, that is funny. I think my 18th birthday would be most memorable, just having all of my friends with my at my parents house, hanging out and eating lots of yummy food.
You were a young mamma. I must say your childhood birthdays sound like so much fun. I would have loved the ballerina cake. My 15, 21 and 27 birthdays stand out the most to me. This is my fav prompt so far.
