Just A Swingin

I first saw this little swing dress on one an adorable gal I follow on Instagram.  I decided it couldn’t hurt to take a chance; Old Navy, coupon code, free shipping (because of course I ordered enough for free shipping).  I loved the color and knew it would be perfect for a Texas summer.

This type of dress has never been something I grabbed because I really thought it would accentuate areas I did not want to call attention to but I could not have been more wrong.  I’ve been surprised at just how flattering a swing dress can be.  This is actually my 4th since I took the plunge and it is quickly becoming my favorite!  Don’t you just love how a simple scarf in a great color gives it an easy spring look.

Once again you know my rule with clothing, it must be multifunctional across my personal and professional life.  This dress easily converts to office appropriate by adding a jacket and a cute pair of wedges.

So many days I have to walk to meetings in the Texas heat and this dress will keep me cool but the jacket will definitely keep me from freezing once I am in a meeting or my office.

I grabbed these Ugg Leopard Wedges last year when they were on super clearance at Dillard’s thanks to a sweet friend from my hometown (shoutout Erin!).  Is it crazy that I totally remember I was riding on my way to Matagorda Beach for a weekend away and as soon as she sent me a message I was on the Dillard’s site placing an order!  Is that what you call fashion conscience?  I also picked up this great Star Mela clutch at a local boutique as kind of my gift to myself for surviving Riley’s college pitching career,  Ha!

I don’t wear statement necklaces nearly enough but really think this outfit is a perfect match for this one I’ve had forever and a day.  Sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new ends up being a huge win.  I’m so glad I decided to take a chance on the swing dress!

Do you take chances with fashion or do you play it safe?  Believe me up until about two years ago I was definitely very matchy, matchy and rarely wore anything in my closet that was not purchased to go together.  I would have laughed at anyone trying to sell me a pari of leopard shoes much less believe they were a neutral!  My closet has expanded 3 fold since I started taking chances and not necessarily because I’m buying more.

Do you guys get the Nordstrom catalogs?  Well a new one came yesterday and I am seriously having to use mucho restraint not to purchase these ASAP!!  I know the Gigi sandals cost way more than a sandal should but I’m telling you they really are that comfy and hold up that well.  I have worn mine for over a year and they still look brand new.   No fading, nothing.  You can still read Sam’s name clearly!!  These are just adorable and I really think I need them…soon.

  1. I cannot believe you just recently started mixing patterns! You are my mixing patterns guru!

  2. Love, love, LOVE that dress. It is perfect on you and that blue scarf looks amazing with it. I would never have thought to put those two together.

  3. So super cute and those sandals – swoon! Am I a complete goofball in my reason for not wearing swing dresses? Every.single.time I end up flashing someone! I can't keep those suckers down with just the slightest breeze!

  4. I wear alot of swing dresses in the Spring and summer and I love them. So cool and comfy. Still holding out for the Sam Edelman leopard sandals, but I saw the ones you mentioned in Dillards last week and they really are cute, but you know how I am about leopard!

  5. Once again, you have opened my eyes to the CUTEST look! I love how you wore it two different ways. I'll have to get one of these dresses. Thanks so much for linking through Waiting on…Wednesday!

  6. Old navy has the best dresses, don't they!? I love this swing dress and it looks great with the leopard wedges and super cute tassel clutch!

  7. You sweet angel, do you remember the John Anderson song by that name, when I saw you in this I just pictured you on a beautiful summer day just a swingin on the porch! Oh my goodness how I need though Sam sandals ASAP! How tall are you? I always have a little bit of an issue with the length of ON dresses since I'm a little bit taller. You look just precious

  8. Haha….girl you know I sang that outloud as I was typing!! I am a little over 5'7" but I am extremely short waisted. I do have trouble alot of times finding dresses that are not too short as well. I'm always bummed at dresses I love with a waist because they are almost always way too long waisted for me. This dress I think was a little longer than some and it worked….I won't feel bad about wearing it to work.

  9. I rarely have time for blog-reading time these days, so I'm shocked that
    1. I had time to read this evening.
    2. I saw my name mentioned.
    3. I have an almost identical clutch by Big Buddha.
And 4. I wore that dress today with a white denim jacket and turquoise embellished sandals and a statement necklace.
My stars must be aligned…Better run out and by a lottery ticket! 😉
    Lookin' good friend!

  10. What a great dress – and I love both ways that you styled it. I need some more dresses like this for summer. And I love the new sandals!

  11. That swing dress is so cute! Whyy do I not own a pair of leopard wedges?? I need them in my life now! And I'm about to bite the bullet on a pair of Sam Edelman sandals – those above are to die for!

  12. I think you should do a get ready with me type blog or video! Have you seen those?
I always like seeing how someone does their makeup, etc.

  13. Leah the Sam Edelman's really are fabulous. I couldn't believe it last year when I decided to finally order a pair because I had never spent that much on sandals. I've been super impressed with the quality and comfort.

  14. I love this whole look so much–that dress is so fun and now I totally want to go get it! Your bag and shoes are fabulous as well. I'm definitely less of a risk taker with style than I used to be–I feel like I've kind of found a style that works for me and I don't usually venture too far out of that. But I'd like to be a little more adventurous!

  15. Old Navy swing dresses are the best right now! I have so many in my wardrobe that I just couldn't resist because they are so comfortable and so flattering. Yours is adorable, too. And I love it both ways you have it styled. They are so versatile that you could probably wear them all year through with extra layers in the colder months. Great look for you!

  16. You know what, I just bought a swing dress this past weekend. I have really worried about wearing them in the past because my "girls" are on the generous side, and the swing dresses seem to just stick out from there. But I found one discounted at Kohl's and decided to try it. Love seeing how you styled yours. The scarf is a great way to add more color or interest. But I really like the jacket. Going to play dress up this weekend. Thank you for linking up with TBB today!

  17. I really didn't think I could wear them Leslie but have been pleasantly surprised. I think it always helps when something is a little trendy and we are use to seeing others wear the flowy look. Have fun playing dress up!!
